Info | Clare is a local teacher and community campaigner set to fight for Lincoln at the General Election Lincoln’s Liberal Democrats have selected local teacher and popular community campaigner Clare Smalley as their candidate in the upcoming General Election.
Clare has worked at her local primary school in Lincoln for 19 years, and has raised her family in the city. After successfully battling both kidney failure and breast cancer, Clare is a passionate campaigner for a better deal for healthcare services in Lincolnshire. Her decades-long service to Lincoln includes setting up a non-profit childcare group, serving as Vice Chair of Surestart Lincolnshire and as a school governor. Clare was first elected as a councillor to City of Lincoln Council in 2021, and was re-elected this May with over 50% of the vote. Prior to Clare’s victory Abbey Ward had been Labour heartland since the 1970s. Clare Smaley, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Lincoln, commented:
“We are pleased that this awful Conservative government has decided to call a General Election and has given people the opportunity to kick them out of office. “We have been working hard all year round talking to voters about the sewage in our rivers, lack of availability of GP and Dentist appointments and the cost-of-living crisis. We look forward to putting a positive message to voters that Lincoln deserves better than this Conservative government.” “We need an MP who will stand up for Lincoln at both Westminster and here in Lincoln. A Labour MP would be a yes-man for Labour council bosses and won’t challenge Labour’s dreadful record at City Hall. "Labour’s record in Lincoln speaks for itself: council tax hikes, cancelling our world-famous Christmas Market, and frontline services in tatters whilst they waste taxpayer cash on vanity projects.
"Nationally the Labour Party continues to show a lack of ambition and leadership. Lincoln’s residents deserve better.
"Only a vote for the Liberal Democrats will ensure residents have a hard-working local MP fighting for a fairer, more prosperous Lincoln.”
