| Info | My name is Gary Steele and I'm the Communist Party's candidate for Glasgow North East.
I've lived in Dennistoun for three years now. But before that I was brought up in a small ex mining town in South Lanarkshire called Lesmahagow.
Became politically conscious when the Con-Dem coalition came to power. Seeing my home town being ravaged by austerity measures and the race to bottom for the job opportunities. None of the main parties offered any real solution to support the Working people of my area. Only the Communist Party offered something radical for the Working-Class and saw the true potential in working people. Building for a future that would see our local communities thrive and not to be left to rot in leaving the people in despair.
I've worked in construction as a groundworker, warehouse operative in a small business, and a service engineer for a global company.
But in all of these industries I've faced poverty pay and poor working conditions. Like any other working-class person in this country. This is down to poor management of these companies and no union representation.
No person should be working full time and still not making ends meet. This is the 21st century not Victorian era Britain.
The reason I'm standing is because I have true belief that the Communist Party of Britain has the most radical manifesto to get Britain off its knees. I'll list a few things that will get us there.
Public ownership of national utilities.
Mass building of social housing.
A wealth tax to make the billionaires pay.
Price caps on food and energy.
Transitioning from fossil fuel exploitation to clean energy supplies, based on renewable energy.
Repealing the racist and anti-trade union laws.
