Info | Patricia was born in Jackson Heights, Queens. Later, moving to Cambria Heights, she attended Sacred Heart Elementary School. Her parents were both blue-collar workers and strong union members. She and her husband Jack, a Vietnam era Navy serviceman, raised their two children, Kerri and Brian, in Medford, NY. She is a grandmother to Matthew and Olivia.
Patricia Eddington represents the 3rd Assembly District in Suffolk County, including the communities of Patchogue, Medford, Holbrook, Ronkonkoma, Coram, Bluepoint, Bellport, Brookhaven Hamlet, Holtsville, Yaphank, Gordon Heights, and parts of Middle Island.
Pat has devoted her professional life to education and helping others. She spent 16 years working with children and families as a social worker in the Islip School District and served as an associate professor of philosophy and women's studies at Suffolk County Community College.
She was elected to the Patchogue-Medford Board of Education where she served as a school board member from 1980 to 1989. Pat was instrumental in establishing full-day kindergarten before and after-school child-care programs in the Patchogue-Medford school district.
She also served for five years as a Patchogue-Medford Library board member in the 1990s. During her tenure on the Library Board, she was interested and involved in the growth of technology and how patrons of the library could gain access to information. She was responsible for making the library a member of the Central Library System in Suffolk County that gave Patchogue-Medford residents access to an in-depth reference collection not available in most public libraries.
Pat's concern for working families was evident twenty-five years ago, when she successfully led a fight to organize and unionize the evening secretaries at the Suffolk County Community College.
Patricia is a graduate of Suffolk County Community College, with an AA Degree in Women's Studies. She went on to SUNY at Stony Brook to receive a Bachelors Degree in Political Science and received her Masters from the School of Social Welfare. Patricia is a New York State Certified Social Worker.
She has been an activist in her community for three decades and an ardent advocate for women's rights. Patricia is the past president of the National Organization for Women, Mid-Suffolk as well as a former Vice-President of the National Women's Political Caucus, Suffolk County Chapter. Pat was elected and currently serves as President of the newly formed Alumni Association of the School of Social Welfare at SUNY Stony Brook.
Patricia has been granted several awards and recognitions:
NYSUT, Friend of Education Award.
The Spanish Society of Suffolk County, Recognition of Support for Women's Rights and Education.
New York State School Boards Association, Recognition for Service to the Patchogue-Medford Schools.
Suffolk Community College, Certificate of Recognition, for 30 semesters of teaching service to the students of Suffolk Community College.
Assemblywoman Eddington is chairperson of the Sub-Committee for Women Veterans, and she is also a member of the Women's Legislative Caucus.
