| Info | I am Justina Lawgracia Ragland. I am a Memphis citizen. Some say I am wise, others say I am brave, however, I say my wisdom and bravery has developed out of the ashes of my experiences. I am passionate about community. I am passionate about unity. I am passionate about leadership. Leadership is calling for me not a career. Whether you vote for me or not, is not the question, but rather, am I committed to completing this mission or calling even if you do not vote for me? Yes I am!
My heart beats for the people of Memphis. Our city’s spirit, resilience, and diversity have always resonated with me. I am genuinely passionate about fostering growth, unity, and prosperity for every corner of this great city. One of the most transformative moments in my life was my very first volunteer job at the Civil Rights Museum. As I walked through those hallowed halls, I discovered not only the history of Memphis but also my own identity. This experience fueled my drive to contribute positively to the legacy of our city.
Remarkably, my great-grandmother served as Mayor Crump’s personal cook and also played the piano classically. My great Aunt was also the first black woman to own a club on Beale Street during a time when those opportunities were unheard of. If they were here today, witnessing my mayoral candidacy would surely be a surreal and proud moment for them. Their legacies motivate me to strive for a Memphis where dreams know no bounds. Picture a Memphis reminiscent of the mid-1800s Gold Rush – a city brimming with boundless opportunities and unwavering optimism. That’s the Memphis I envision, and with your support, we can breathe life into this vision together.
If I could change one thing about Memphis, it would be the prevalence of crime. I am resolute in my commitment to making our city safer, employing innovative strategies, and fostering a sense of security for all residents. As a proud mother of two beautiful grown daughters, who, like me, have grown up in the heart of Memphis, I am even more compelled to create a city that we can all thrive in, a city that’s safe, prosperous, and brimming with opportunities.
Memphis needs someone who is going to be fair, but firm. Someone who is going to be balanced. Someone who is going to be innovative. Someone who is going to keep the foundation but usher in the future. There is not community without the word unity. Whether or not you are a citizen or an industry, a voter or a non-voter, we all have a purpose. We all will fit into this puzzle piece of a beautiful Memphis, I will put the puzzle pieces back together again. I will be a great Mayor for this purpose, vote Justina Ragland for Mayor 2023.
