InfoCouncil Member Vincent J. Gentile was born and raised in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. He currently lives in Dyker Heights. He graduated from Fort Hamilton High School, Cornell University, and earned a law degree from Fordham University.

Gentile won a special election on February 25, 2003 to fill a vacant seat and was re-elected in November 2003 to represent the 43rd District. He currently serves on six committees in the City Council: Consumer Affairs, Land Use, Mental Health, Mental Retardation, Alcoholism, Drug Abuse, and Disability Services, Public Safety, State & Federal Legislation, and Waterfronts. He also sits on the Land Use Subcommittee on Planning. Dispositions & Concessions and is a member of the Italian-American Caucus.

In his first few months on the job, Gentile managed to secure key funding for programs and capital projects in his district, and as a member of the Brooklyn delegation he worked actively to see that Brooklyn received its fair share of City budget funding. He has also been active in tackling issues such as transportation, specifically by saving ferry service to Lower Manhattan and by addressing the need for subway service improvements. As many homes within the Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, and Fort Hamilton neighborhoods have become targets for redevelopment, Gentile has taken the lead on the issue of zoning and home preservation. Upon taking office, he immediately created the Preservation Task Force to address these concerns. In addition, he secured an additional daily round of sanitation collections in commercial areas of his district following the passage of the budget. He has also been active fighting Sunday parking meters, excessive enforcement of parking meters, and aggressive enforcement of sidewalk violations.

Gentile's ties to his community, his record of delivering goods and services to the 43rd District, and his reputation as being tough on crime are largely an extension of his record as a prosecutor for 11 years and a State Senator for six years, where he represented many of the same neighborhoods he represents today.
