| Info | A long-time advocate of quality public healthcare, education and a compassionate society, Dr. Shafiq Qaadri was elected as Member of Provincial Parliament for Etobicoke North in October 2003. Shafiq was named Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Health Promotion in March 2006. He is also the current chair of the Standing Committee on Social Policy.
The multilingual doctor has spent 16 years practicing medicine in his busy clinic in the west end of Toronto. Shafiq is a Designated Medical Practitioner (DMP) of the Government of Canada, and a leader in making health information understandable to the public and physicians alike.
Shafiq has worked to improve the quality of healthcare, having delivered more than 120 Continuing Medical Education (CME) lectures to fellow physicians. He has taught doctors across Canada about developments in many practice areas.
Shafiq also teaches the public about optimal treatments and best practices. He has written more than 700 articles, and done more than 1000 radio or television shows.
Educated at Upper Canada College, he graduated from the University of Toronto Medical School in 1988. During his academic career, he won numerous awards and scholarships, including a Canadian National Debating Championship, an English-Speaking Union Essay Prize to Oxford University, and a Medical Research Council Scholarship in Clinical Neurosurgery.
Shafiq and his wife live in Toronto with their two children.
