Info | Rep. Peggy Pendleton has returned to the Legislature after a two-year hiatus. She is a member of the Committee on Marine Resources, an assignment she requested because of her strong ties to the local fishing community. She is also a member of the Government Oversight Committee, which ensures that public funds are expended in the most effective, efficient, and economical manner possible. During her previous legislative service, Pendleton helped to draft legislation that formed this committee.
Pendleton is beginning her fourth non-consecutive term in the House, and her eighth term in the Legislature. She served in the Maine Senate for four terms and was Senate Chair of many committees. As Senate Chair of the Education Committee, she earned the Legislator of the Year award from the Maine State Vocational Educators Association and spearheaded the formation of the Essential Programs and Services Committee to reform financing of Maine’s schools. Pendleton also served as Senate Chair of the State and Local Government Committee, and the Judiciary Committee.
Her professional career has been in nursing. Pendleton earned associate’s and bachelor’s degrees from the University of Southern Maine and has a diploma in nursing from Eastern Maine General Hospital School of Nursing, in Bangor. She was a member of the instructional team of allied health services at Southern Maine Technical College, eventually coordinating the program.
Pendleton was named the United Bikers of Maine Legislator of the Year in 1997 and 1999 and also named the Maine Nurses Association Legislator of the Year in 2001 and 2003.
Pendleton lives on Holmes Road in Scarborough with her husband, Bob. They have two children and four grandchildren.
