Mark Saunders is a dedicated community leader, who served as the Chief of the Toronto Police Service, the largest municipal police force in Canada, for five years and is actively involved in community organizations.
In recognition of his many contributions of serving the community, Saunders has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal for Outstanding Community Contributions and the Harry Jerome Trailblazer Award. He was also awarded the Police Exemplary Service Medal with Thirty Year Bar. He has received the Black Canadians Award for Public Service and has twice received the Black History Month Award. In October 2015, he was named an Officer of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces.
Saunders immigrated to Canada from England in 1967 and has lived in Toronto for nearly 40 years. He is happily married with four children.
