InfoTed McMeekin was first elected MPP for the riding of Ancaster-Dundas-Flamborough-Aldershot in the 2000 by-election. He was re-elected in 2003. He currently serves as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister Education and is Vice-Chair of the Legislation and Regulations Committee of Cabinet.

In Opposition, he served as critic for Municipal Affairs and later Tourism.

Ted’s distinguished 15-year record of public service includes two terms as mayor of the Town of Flamborough, a member of the local District Health Council and as the youngest member of Hamilton City Council. He spent six years as Chair of the Region of Hamilton-Wentworth’s Community Service and Public Health Committee. Ted has also served as a member of the McMaster University Senate youth group leader, baseball and soccer coach. In addition to this, he was the director of a Canadian based international work camp and an overseas YMCA volunteer.

Before his career as an elected official, Ted served as Executive Director of the Burlington Social Planning Council, as Chair of Part-Time Studies at Mohawk College in Hamilton and as Mission and Stewardship Officer with the Hamilton Conference of the United Church of Canada. In his riding, he may be best known as the former owner/operator of the award-winning Waterdown business, CHAPTERS…More Than a Bookstore!

Ted lives in Waterdown with his wife, Dr. Barbara McMeekin, a practicing family physician. They are the parents of three wonderful daughters.
