InfoMatt grew up here in a working-class family and has spent his career helping people. While on active duty in the Navy, and then as a civilian employee in the federal government, Matt was focused on protecting fellow Active-Duty Service Members, military retirees, their families, and Veterans.

Today he lives on a small farm in his hometown of Deerfield and is committed to protecting all of us.

Matt is running for Congress, because he respects us and couldn’t sit by while our country is torn apart by politicians looking to line their own pockets, instead of putting us first.

Raised by his mother, grandmother, and older brother, Matt was an active member of the greater Portage County community. As a child, Matt was heavily involved in 4-H (where he took care of just about every animal imaginable), and would later join the Future Farmers of America and play a number of varsity sports for Southeast High School.

After high school, Matt attended Kent State University where he studied sports medicine. After earning his degree, he relocated to Raleigh, NC to work in the Sports Medicine Department at NC State. Yearning to do more to give back to his community, Matt decided to seek a commission into the military.

After completing the bachelor of nursing program at Kent State University Matt was commissioned as an Ensign in the Navy Nurse Corps. His first duty station was Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, in Portsmouth, Virginia. At his first command, Matt had the distinct honor of caring for Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, and Airmen who were responsible for defending our democracy.

During his first tour, Matt deployed to Joint Task Force Guantanamo in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba as a member of the Joint Medical Group. Matt later moved North along I-95 to our Nation’s Capitol. He was first assigned to Fort Belvoir Community Hospital where he was the nurse manager of an inpatient ward and later moved on to the Defense Health Agency where he assumed the duties as the executive assistant to an Army Major General who oversaw healthcare operations for the military health system.

After hanging up his uniform, Matt continued in government service as a civilian employee for the Department of Defense and the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Matt returned to Kent State in 2014 to pursue a Masters Degree in Public Administration with a focus in public policy, and also received a graduate certificate in health informatics. Matt will be graduating from The Ohio State University in the Spring of 2022 with a doctorate degree in nursing.

In 2021 Matt launched a small business in Ohio that provides consulting services to healthcare institutions that are working to improve the health and health outcomes of their patients. When not busy with work and school Matt can be found at a baseball or OSU game with his husband Ryan and friends, or at the dog park with their dog, Lexie.
