Info | Sally Lieber was elected to the California State Assembly in November 2002 to represent the 22nd Assembly District. The 22nd District is considered the "Heart of Silicon Valley" and includes the cities of Mountain View, Sunnyvale, Cupertino and portions of San Jose, Santa Clara and Los Altos.
As a first-term legislator, Sally was appointed to serve as Assistant Speaker pro Tempore of the State Assembly. In this role she serves as a member of Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez's executive leadership team, playing a key role in the development and passage of legislation and presiding over Assembly floor sessions.
In addition to these leadership responsibilities, Sally serves as Assembly Chair of the Joint Legislative Committee on Ending Poverty in California, as Vice-Chair of the Assembly's Committee on Local Government and as Chair of the Assembly's Select Committee on Mobilehomes. She also serves on the Assembly's Committees on Natural Resources, Environmental Safety and Toxic Materials, Judiciary, Insurance, Health, Aging and Long-Term Care and Human Services.
Sally brings with her to the State Capitol a record of successful problem-solving as a local and regional leader in Silicon Valley. Before her election to the State Assembly, Sally served as a Councilwoman and Mayor of the City of Mountain View and as a Santa Clara County Commissioner. As a local elected official, Sally developed a track record as a strong advocate for the needs of children and seniors, for affordable workforce housing and for environmental sustainability.
Sally has been active in a number community organizations including serving as a Boardmember of the League of Women Voters, the American Association of University Women, the National Women's Political Caucus and the YWCA. Sally has a special interest in making educational opportunities available to women and girls. She has been proud to serve as Chair of a successful school bond measure, as a member of several school site councils and as founder of a scholarship for women moving from GED to community college education.
Sally and her husband David live in Old Mountain View, where they are proud to be active in neighborhood and community activities. They also serve as pet guardians for a politically astute black and white cat.
