Info | After earning a degree in Wildlife Biology from Iowa State University, Kelly moved to Fort Collins to attend graduate school at CSU. He subsequently received a master’s degree from Colorado State University. Kelly has been a public school teacher, a historic building renovator, and a 3-term gubernatorial appointee as Larimer County Public Trustee. Kelly has served as Fort Collins Mayor, Mayor Pro Tem (4 terms), and City Councilmember (3 terms), and he has participated on numerous boards and committees and has been an integral part of many large-scale efforts to improve our community (see Contributions to Fort Collins). Kelly has garnered numerous awards and recognition (see Recognition) for his community service and leadership, including the prestigious E-Town award for decades of work protecting open spaces and natural areas in Fort Collins and Northern Colorado. He has been referred to as the Father of Fort Collins Natural Areas.
On a personal note, Kelly is a long-time resident of District 5 (west central Fort Collins). He is married to Linda Stanley, a Senior Research Scientist at CSU. Together they enjoy friends, good food, hiking, wildlife viewing, reading, movies, and garage sales. They hope to adopt another rescue dog soon, after recently losing their beloved Anya.
