| Info | Dennis Townsend was born in Tacoma, and has lived in Pierce County all of his life. He grew up in the Midland area, in a family of five. Dennis' father, Al, worked as a truck driver, dispatcher and small business owner / contractor, and was an active Teamster in Local 313 in Tacoma. His late mother, Lillian, worked as a custodian at the Medical Arts Building (now known as the Tacoma Municipal Building). Both were industrious working-class parents who instilled a strong work ethic in the Townsend family.
Dennis has two brothers and one surviving sister. His younger sister, Bonnie, died in 2000 after a valiant battle with cancer. Gordon and Jeff both live and work in Pierce County - Gordon is a technician for Verizon, and Jeff is a driver for Ric's Transport. Karen runs a small business in Puyallup, Gutters Plus, with her husband Duane Weber. As a baby-boom family (5 children within 8 years), the Townsend family has close relationships and strong values and principles.
Dennis attended Franklin Pierce High School and graduated in 1972. He was editor of the school newspaper and an honor student. After high school, Dennis was, as he jokes, "drafted" by Pacific NW Bell, and has worked for over 30 years in the telecommunications industry as a clerk, lineman, technician, microwave tower worker, engineer, and manager. He now works at the Rainier Group in Eatonville as a telecom project manager.
Dennis Townsend is 49 and lives in Spanaway. His wife, Dona, is a special education teacher at Spanaway Lake High School. He has three grown children - Christina, Damon and Roslyn. All are successful Bethel School District graduates, and their families all live in the area. He has five grandchildren.
