InfoJasbir S. Cheema was born in a remote village in Punjab, India. His family migrated to India during the 1947 bloody partition of the country, abandoning their home, family, and friends in the newly created Pakistan. While in school, Jasbir spent most of his spare time helping at the family farm. He had a lot of chores, as he hoed, ploughed, took care of the animals, and helped his family irrigate the farm. With his chores and his school, Jasbir often to stayed up late in the evening to finish his homework for school.

Hard work finally paid off, he completed both his Bachelor's and Master's in Science in 1982 at PAU, one of India's most prestigious universities. That same year, Jasbir migrated to Canada, where he continued his academic pursuits at the Humber College of Applied Arts and Technology. Jasbir graduated from Humber College in 1986 as a recipient of one of the school's awards for academic excellence.

Upon graduation, Jasbir applied his academic training towards a position at Corporate Foods research (Dempster's Bread), where he conducted research on food science and development at their laboratories in Ontario.

Following his employment with Dempster's, Jasbir went on to become a small business owner, first as the operator of a successful mobile food catering business, and subsequently as the owner of a driving school, a company he continues to manage to this day.

Jasbir has maintained a strong profile in his community, having served as a weekly host on CJMR 1190 Radio for four years, and also as a host and co-producer for a weekly program with City TV, in Toronto. Most recently, Jasbir became the first live news anchor on Channel M, Vancouver's first mainstream multicultural station, where he has received accolades for his dedication and skill in investigating and reporting current events to the multicultural communities of the Lower Mainland.

Jasbir and his wife Sue are happily married and have four young children all attending local schools.
