Info | Ted first arrived in Wyoming in 1979 at the age of 10. He spent
thirteen seasons in northwest Wyoming working for various ranches,
the U.S. Forest Service, and the state's Game and Fish Grizzly Bear
team.
Traveling around the country for his education and career, Ted
repeatedly returned to Wyoming to work. Even though many
members of his family relocated permanently to Teton County, he
could not find the career he dreamed about, and so kept leaving
the state for other educational or employment experiences. Finally,
he and his wife, Laura, decided to cease looking for careers in
Wyoming and create their own, instead, founding Hewitt Ladd Inc.
His desire to make it easier for young people to return to Wyoming
is a major part of his motivation in seeking this position.
He was appointed by Governor Freudenthal to the board of the
Wyoming Business Council in 2003, where he has focused on small
business creation as the key to Wyoming?s economic prosperity. He
is the chairman of the WBC Entrepreneurship Committee and a
board member of the Wyoming Small Business Development
Center. His articles on entrepreneurship and economics have
appeared in the Casper Star-Tribune, the Wyoming Business
Report, and the Jackson Hole News & Guide.
Ted's first participated in federal policy as an intern with the Council
of Environmental Quality in the first Bush Administration as part of
the Cornell-in-Washington program. After graduating, he worked for
the Committee on International Relations in the U.S. House of
Representatives in the spring of 1994. He also managed the
successful campaign of a local county commissioner in 2002.
His corporate experience includes two years of consulting to the U.S.
Air Force on transferring technology from federal laboratories to
America?s private sector; four years at Palm Inc. (the makers of the
PalmPilot), where he was a consumer marketing manager and
company spokesman, and most recently as Vice President of
Business Development for PalmGear.com, a leader in the handheld
software industry. Along with his wife, Laura, he is now a principal at
Hewitt Ladd Inc., a management consulting firm in Wilson, Wyoming
specializing in marketing and technology strategies for small
businesses.
Ted holds a Bachelors degree from Cornell University; a Masters
degree in international economics from Johns Hopkins University; a
Masters degree in business administration from the Wharton School
of Business; and a certificate from the Oklahoma School of
Horseshoeing.
He is also a member of the Board of Directors for the Community
Foundation of Jackson Hole, a non-profit organization that
encourages local philanthropy. He is a member of the Jackson
chapter of Rotary International and the Leadership JH Alumni
Association. He volunteers at Central Wyoming College and several
high schools within Teton County by teaching seminars on business
planning. In 2002, he founded and raised funds for a semi-annual
Business Plan Competition which encourages local youth to seek
entrepreneurial careers within Wyoming. In 2003, he initiated the JH
Biz Challenge, which awarded over $17,000 to an entrepreneur in
northwest Wyoming.
