Benjamin F. Carver, 78, pioneer Jefferson County resident and former state legislator, died Tuesday at his home four miles east of Golden. He had been in failing health for three years. Mr. Carver was born on February 28, 1865 in Mount Pleasant, Iowa and came to Colorado in 1885. For a few years, he was bridge foreman for Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad and later went to Creede where he had an interest in Amethyst Mine. He married Mary Elizabeth Webb in 1890 in Antonito. Five years later, he purchased a farm in Jefferson County. In 1912, he was elected as a Democrat to State House of Representatives and was elected to State Senate two years later. Surviving, in addition to Mrs. Carver, are three sons, J. Howard Carver and Benjamin F. Carver, Jr., both of Denver, and Melvin S. Carver of Golden; and two daughters, Celestine Welch of Idaho Springs and Elsie Colby of Lakewood. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Olinger's Mortuary with burial in Crown Hill Cemetery.
