| Info | A member of the European Parliament for the Netherlands since July 14, 2009, Bas Eickhout leads the European Parliamentary arm of the GroenLinks (GreenLeft) Party, formed in 1989 out of merger of four left-wing parties: the Evangelical People's Party, the Communist Party of the Netherlands, the Pacifist Socialist Party and the Political Party of the Radicals.
Eickhout was put forward as one of two (along with "Ska" Keller of the Alliance 90/The Greens) leading candidates (Spitzenkandidaden) selected at the European Green Party Congress in 2018 for European Commission President this year.
