| Info | ELIZABETH M. READY of Lincoln, Addison County, Democrat, was born in Burlington, Vermont and became a resident of present town in 1976. She was educated in elementary schools in Burlington, Vermont; graduated from Rice Memorial High School, Burlington, Vermont; University of Vermont, Burlington and Burlington College (B.A., Education); Norwich University, Northfield, Vermont (Master's Studies in Public Administration).
Ready taught basic literacy to rural adults in Addison County for seven years. She became a consultant to the Vermont Department of Education where she founded the Adult Diploma Program and worked with the sixteen area vocational centers to design programs for adult students. In 1986, Ready joined the Governor's Office of Policy Research and Coordination. She became director of the Addison County Community Trust which creates affordable housing and preserves farmland and special natural resources.
She has served as auditor, planning commissioner and selectman in the Town of Lincoln and as a member of the Addison County Regional Planning Commission. Member of the Senate: 1989-90, 1991-92, 1993-94, 1995-96, 1997-98, 1999-2000. Ready has served as Chairwoman of the Senate Natural Resources Committee for four years and on the Committee for twelve, on the Senate Agriculture Committee for eight years, on the Senate Finance Committee for six years, on the Senate Appropriations Committee for six years and on the joint Fiscal Committee for six years. Ready is one of only six female State Auditors in the country.
Along with her three sons and the State of Vermont, Ready's greatest loves are literature, poetry, Nature and Ireland. She loves to hike, bike, cross-country ski, kayak, in-line skate, read and write.
