Info | Joe grew up the youngest of five brothers and he learned a lot about life from his family. His mother, Paula, started a book publishing company from their kitchen table and his father, Bill, was a small town attorney who rose up in the ranks of the Kentucky judicial system. Joe developed a strong work ethic, modeled after his parents that stuck with him and pushed him to do everything he could to make a positive impact on the world.
Joe attended the College of Charleston, living above Jestine’s Kitchen on Meeting Street, and fell in love with all that the Lowcountry has to offer. Joe worked during the school year as runner for a small law firm on Broad Street and, during the summers, as a deckhand on tugs and barges to help pay for his education.
After transferring to Florida Atlantic University, Joe completed his B.S. in Ocean Engineering and worked at a small firm designing, permitting and overseeing the construction of marina and coastline development. While working as an ocean engineer, Joe coordinated with various local, state and federal agencies, as well as environmental groups in fulfilling all necessary permits. He worked to ensure the development did not negatively impact our natural resources. To avoid harming seagrass beds and coral reefs during coastal development, Joe dove with marine biologists to map benthic resources.
After working for years as an ocean engineer, Joe moved to South America to learn Spanish. Returning to the United States, Joe followed his dream of going to law school. While in law school, Joe worked several jobs, gaining valuable experience in both civil and criminal areas of the legal profession. At the prosecutor’s office, Joe worked with local and state law enforcement agencies, presenting indictments to the grand jury, arguing motions and prosecuting felonies. He also served as the President of the Chase College of Law Student Bar Association and was elected as the American Bar Association’s Vice-Chair of the Law Student Division, where he fought to curtail the ever-rising costs of legal education.
Upon graduating law school, Joe accepted a position at a small firm in Charleston, where he practices construction law, representing both Plaintiffs and Defendants. Joe remains active with the Charleston Lawyers Club, Charleston County Bar Association, South Carolina Young Lawyers Division and American Bar Association. He is admitted to practice in all South Carolina federal courts in addition to the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Joe and his wife, Amanda, are co-owners of Soul Yoga + Wellness, a yoga studio located in West Ashley where they live with their new baby, Boone, and their four legged mutt, Teddy.
Joe is devoted to solving problems. His passion is helping people and creating prosperous futures for everyone.
