Sharon Collins is running for Arizona Secretary of State because she believes the citizens of Arizona deserve a fair and honest election system that will count every vote.
Sharon grew up in Virginia, where she attended Radford College, in Radford Virginia. There she received her B.S. in Elementary Education. From 1968 until 1982 Sharon taught public school in Maryland, New York and Virginia.
In 1982 she became a single parent and started her own business. Sharon borrowed $75,000, renovated an old Catholic church and started Central Childcare Center. It became one of the top five childcare centers in Southern Maryland. Two years later, she opened a preschool in another center that was also successful. The two centers had a combined enrollment of over 150 children and a staff of more than 30.
In 1987 Sharon married Jim Collins, sold her business and moved to Massachusetts. She attended Tufts University Graduate School and taught kindergarten at Tufts Educational Childcare Center until she moved to Tucson in 1988.
In 1989 Sharon established Woodland Assisted Living Center, a supervisory care facility for the elderly. In 1990 she merged her business with Catalina Village retirement apartments and as part owner, started an assisted living program. Since the merger, Catalina Village has become a successful senior service residential establishment, housing 92 residents with a staff of 18 employees.
In 1997 to present, Sharon became the Deputy Director of the Governor's Southern Arizona Office. She is responsible for constituent services, Southern Arizona policy and public speaking on the Governor's behalf.
In July 1999 she helped Secretary of State, Betsey Bayless mobilize and facilitate the current operation of the Secretary of State satellite office.
Sharon currently is a board member of the Arizona Children's Association. In 1996, she worked with One-on-One program, a non-profit mentoring program for at-risk youth. She has been a volunteer at Casa Del Los Ninos, and worked on various charity fundraisers.
Since 1992, Sharon has been politically involved in Republican politics. She is a Precinct Committeeman, a member of several Republican clubs, a volunteer in campaigns and the 1995 Republican candidate for Mayor of Tucson.
