InfoMoses Sanchez was born in the Republic of Panama and came to the United
States in 1981 with his family, parents and younger sister, in search of the
"American Dream."
With almost no money and an inability to speak English, the Sanchez family,
through hard work and education, became successful enough to move into
their own home in the Tri-Valley and eventually became United States citizens.
“My Father was one of those non-English speaking employees,
working at different fast food places, busing tables and janitorial
duties. He is my mentor in life. If he can become successful, while
raising a family in an English speaking society, then there's no excuse
for failure in America.” – Moses Sanchez

After graduating from high school, Moses joined the United States Navy as a Deck
Seaman. His first duty station was onboard the USS Chancellorsville CG-62 (Aegis,
Ticonderoga Class, Guided Missile Cruiser) in San Diego. He spent three months out at sea
in the Caribbean involved in Counter-Narcotics Operations. After a successful tour in the
Caribbean and a bust of around $1.2 billion dollars of un-cut cocaine, Moses was granted
the privilege of attending the Defense Language Institute in Monterey. Moses spent 9
months at DLI learning to speak, read, and write Chinese (Mandarin) for the Navy. When
his time was up he decided he wanted to continue his studies outside the military and was
Honorably Discharged shortly afterward.
“If the Navy taught me anything it’s that life is not just fun and games and easy.
Deck Department motto, ‘Work hard, Play hard’. Life, like the military, is exactly
what you make of it. Through hard work and discipline one can achieve great
things.” – Moses Sanchez

When he left the US Navy, Moses moved to his current residency in Tracy and
started school at Las Positas Community College in Livermore. Going to school in
the daytime Moses worked Night Shift (11pm-7:30am) as a Certified Nurse’s
Assistant at Valley Memorial Hospital in Livermore.
“School in the days, working nights was interesting. There’s a whole world
out there going on while most people go to bed and we never really think
about them until we become them.” – Moses Sanchez

After 18 months at Las Positas Moses received his first degree an A.A. in Liberal Arts and
Sciences and he got involved in the Associated Students of Las Positas College (Student
Government), as a Senator (Student Representative). While at Las Positas Moses became the
Student Body President and sat on a number of committees and boards representing the students.
While ASB President, teachers were going through contract negotiations and a possible strike was
going to begin. The school had received money from Sacramento but was unable to use the
money for the teachers and forced to use the money in technology. This was somewhat ridiculous
seeing that LPC had good technology, what it really needed was to pay the teachers better but the
School Board did not have discretionary use of their funding. Moses asked the Board who could
change this so School Boards have more local control of their funding and the answer was the
State Assembly.
With that Moses Sanchez decided to run for State Assembly.
“I never really thought of getting into politics when I decided to run. I just really
wanted to help the school out. Discretionary funding for schools was my platform, 1000
doors later, I was out trying to save the world and fix everything!” – Moses Sanchez

Without any previous public campaigns under his belt he decided that without money the
best way to get his message out was to go door-to-door and he began knocking on
doors. By the end of the 2002 Republican Primary Moses Sanchez had knocked on
over 4500 doors by himself.
In San Joaquin County he received more than 40% of the Republican votes and the
endorsement of Congressman Richard Pombo and conservative organizations such as
the California Pro-Life Council, and the National Tax Limitation Committee.
“Knocking on doors was and will always be a crucial part of campaigning for
me. You get real problems, by real people, and with real solutions. It’s by far
the best form of communication and it really shows people who you are much
better than a 30 second commercial or a 25 cent mailer.” – Moses Sanchez

After the loss in the 2002 Republican Primary Moses was hired as a Marketing
Consultant by Radio Merced. Radio Merced has seven radio stations in Merced
County including Oldies 97.5 KABX, Spanish station Radio Lobo 98.7 KLOQ,
the Bear Rocks 92.5 KBRE, and NEWSTALK 1510 AM.
“The time I spent with the radio stations and helping businesses in Merced
gave me a lot of insight on what’s important to the economy in Merced and
I look forward to helping those businesses, again, as their State
Assemblyman.” – Moses Sanchez

After the 2002 Gubernatorial Election, Congressman Richard Pombo won his
6th term to the House of Representatives and Moses was hired as a Field
Representative for the Congressman.
“Working for the Congressman was by far the best job I ever had. Not
only did I like my fellow employees but I respected and admired the
man I worked for. It was like a family, you may have disagreements
from time to time but like a family you always come together when you
need to and get the job done.” – Moses Sanchez
