Ms Fatima Nagdee Hajaig served as Deputy Minister of the then Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Africa from 5 November 2008 until April 2009 and She was a member of African National Congress (ANC) and member of Parliament of the from 1994.

She also served as a member of the ANC Branch in Refilwe Cullinan / Olaf Palme from 1998 and as a member of the International Council, Parliamentarians for Global Action and as an Executive Member of the Call of Islam and UDF Alliance.
Academic Qualifications

Ms Hajaig holds Bachelor of Arts degree from Wits University 1963 and LLB from the University of EotvosLorand in Budapest 1967. She also obtained a Diploma in Macro-Economics from National Institute for Economic Policy (Niep) 1996 and a Certificate in Conflict Resolution, Centre for Conflict Resolution from the University of Cape Town 1997 and a Certificate in Foreign Affairs and the Media from the University of Princeton, USA in 1997.
Career/Positions/Memberships/Other Activities

Ms Hajaig was a member of Pan African Committee on Justice and Human Rights; an Executive Director for Development of Women and Children in poverty, Central Islamic Trust from 1985 until 1994; member of Southern African Development Community (SADC) PF Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation; member of the ANC Womens League (ANCWL) from 1992 until 2004 and as member of the ANC Branch of Mayfair in Gauteng from 1992 to 1998 and later as Chairperson of the ANCWL in Mayfair Branch, Gauteng from 1990 to 1994.

She also served as member of Parliamentary Group on International Relations; a member of Parliamentarians for Global Action; a member of Portfolio Committee on Trade and Industry; an Executive member of African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) in Gauteng; a member of Kempton Park Negotiating Team; a member of United Democratic Front (UDF) and a member of the JISS Nursery School Board from 1988 until 1994.

Ms Hajaig was a Vice Chairperson of Transvaal Indian Congress and a representative at CODESA talks during the period 1992 to 1994 and as member of Joint Committee on Improvement of Quality of Life of Women.
