Info | William M. Farmer was born in Fayette County, Illinois, June 5, 1853. He acquired a preliminary education in the district schools, was for three years a student in McKendree College and entered Union College of Law of Chicago, where he graduated in June 1876. He was admitted to practice June 1876. He practiced law in Vandalia until his election as Circuit Judge. He was elected State’s Attorney of Fayette County in 1880. He was a member of the House of Representative during the thirty-sixth General Assembly and a member of Senate during thirty-seventh and thirty-eighth General Assemblies. He was elected to the Circuit Bench in the Fourth Circuit in 1897 and re-elected in 1903. He was assigned to the Appellate Court of the Second District. He was elected to the Supreme Court in 1906 and re-elected in 1915 and 1924. Justice Farmer resigned June 6, 1931, and died August 28, 1931, at his home in Vandalia.
