| Info | I'm Paul Whitehead, and I'm running for U. S. Representative in Congress to represent Torrance, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, El Segundo, Los Angeles, Venice, and West LA families in the 36th Congressional district.
I'm not a politician and I'm not rich. My father crawled under houses installing heaters and my mother cleaned teeth to put food on our table and send me to college. My father repeatedly showed me his hands and said, "Bubba, you gotta get an office job one day."
Now, years later I'm an educator, a dedicated Republican, an involved member of the community, and I face the same problems you do every day.
My political life began when I worked for my congressman in Washington, D.C. While there, I met a group of people preparing for then Vice-President George Bush's 1988 bid for the presidency. I was so impressed with them and their candidate, that I eventually joined the George Bush for President campaign as a paid staff member.
After he assumed office, President Bush spoke of the importance of closing down his campaign properly, so he could put the election behind him and begin governing our country. With this in mind, I chose to stay with the campaign and process the final Federal Election Commission reports. As a matter of fact, I have the honor of being the very last Bush/Quayle paid staffer!
The experience of working on a national campaign, attending inaugural events, being invited to the White House, and a receiving a personal "Thank You" from President Bush sealed my desire to one day seek elective office myself.
Ever since, I've been active in my community and the Republican party. As your next member of Congress, I vow to fight to protect our children, to secure our homeland, to revitalize the economy, and build a stronger and better America.
