Einar V. Dyhrkopp, Vice Chairman of the Board, of Shawneetown, Illinois, was appointed a Governor of the U.S. Postal Service on November 24, 1993, for a term which expires in December 2001. He was elected Vice Chairman of the Board in January 1998. Governor Dyhrkopp currently serves as Chairman of the Audit Committee and as a member of the Capital Projects Committee.
Governor Dyhrkopp is President of Tecumseh International Corporation, a firm involved in coal marketing; is active in area banks; and is a livestock and grain farmer. In addition, he has initiated land development, has operated a construction company specializing in housing and commercial building -- and for 22 years he was a partner and chief operating officer of a Southern Illinois manufacturing firm specializing in electronic cabinetry for major United States firms.
He has been a director of Illinois One Bank, NA, and its predecessor in Shawneetown for 33 years. He is presently serving as vice president and director of Illinois One Bancorp, the holding company for Illinois One Bank located in Shawneetown, Elizabethtown and Golconda.
Governor Dyhrkopp is a former Mayor of Shawneetown and has served on many State of Illinois Commissions, the most recent being the Commission on the Future of Afro-American Males. Governor Dyhrkopp also serves as a Regional Advisory Board member of the Southern Illinois University Public Policy Institute.
He is a U.S. Navy combat veteran of World War II, serving on the destroyer-minelayer U.S.S. Aaron Ward, DM 34, which sustained major suicide plane damage at the Battle of Okinawa.
Married with one son, Governor Dyhrkopp is a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rites Bodies, the Shrine, the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
