InfoTony Ianno was first elected to the House of Commons as Member of Parliament for Trinity-Spadina in 1993. He was re-elected in 1997, 2000 and 2004. In 2004, he was appointed Minister of State (Families and Caregivers). His compassion and concern for social justice, combined with his small business experience, have given him a refreshing, practical approach to his parliamentary duties.

In 1996, Mr. Ianno was appointed to the Prime Minister’s Task Force on Ageing to help Canada prepare for its changing demographics. In December 1997, he was asked to head the National Liberal Caucus Task Force on Financial Services studying, among other things, the proposed bank merger. The task force’s report, entitled A Balance of Interests, was published in November 1998.

Mr. Ianno then served as Parliamentary Secretary to the President of the Treasury Board from 1998 to 2000. From 2001 to 2004, he served on the Standing Committee on Human Resources Development and the Status of Persons with Disabilities. In 2003, he was asked by the Prime Minister to chair the Prime Minister's Task Force on Active Living and Dignity for Seniors. The task force tabled its report, Creating A National Seniors Agenda, in May 2004.

A life long resident of Trinity-Spadina, Mr. Ianno has been active in all aspects of his community, including ratepayers associations, charities, and working with emotionally challenged children.

Mr. Ianno was born in 1957. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto. He and his wife Christine Innes have four children.
