InfoGar Knutson was first elected to Parliament in 1993 and re-elected in 1997 and in 2000.

On January 15, 2002, he was named Secretary of State (Central and Eastern Europe and Middle East).

Appointed in 1998 as Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister, Mr. Knutson has also been a member of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development, the Standing Joint Committee on Scrutiny of Regulations, and the House of Commons Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans.

Gar has worked diligently to attract economic investments to the riding of Elgin-Middlesex-London. This includes Formet Industries (a division of the Magna Corporation) which now employs 1,300 people. Gar was also instrumental in attracting an ethanol plant to Southwestern Ontario and securing the investment of the Sterling Truck plant to St. Thomas.

Prior to his election in 1993, Mr. Knutson managed a small business support corporation and was a part-time instructor at Fanshawe College.

Mr. Knutson has a law degree from the University of Windsor and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Western Ontario.

He and his wife, Christine, have three children.
