Elected to the Kentucky House of Representatives as a Democrat from the 5th District in 1971, 1973, 1975, and 1977.
I've lived in Calloway County all of my life and my commitment to serving and helping the people of our area is well established and unquestioned. My chosen profession of almost 50 years has been that of a funeral director. I know of no other profession that exemplifies a greater commitment to service over self and personal interests. I believe I have exhibited an honest desire to serve people and help solve problems, a willingness to work with all parties using a common-sense approach, and a spirit of cooperation for the good of all. I believe that my past experience as your State Representative will allow me to be immediately effective and hit the ground running. My work ethic, experience and integrity will prove to be an invaluable resource and asset for the people of Kentucky's 5th House District in the General Assembly.
I believe that a State Representative should always seek to bring opposing parties together in a spirit of cooperation and reconciliation rather than divisiveness. We need to ask whether what we are doing in the various aspects of state government is fair and beneficial to all concerned. A State Representative should provide leadership and statesmanship.
I believe we need a State Representative who can and will use all the resources of the office to collaborate with other state and federal legislators for the ultimate benefit of our citizens. It is absolutely vital that our 5th district representative partner with and work with other members of the Kentucky General Assembly, the Governor and his Cabinet, and the various department heads and Commissioners in state government. It is also essential that our State Representative have and continue to develop a close, personal relationship with Congressman Whitfield, Senators McConnell and Paul, and their staffs for the further benefit of the all citizens of the district.
As State Representative I will closely with the Economic Development Corporations (EDC) in our counties in assuming a fresher, more aggressive role in attracting new industry and new business investment. This would ultimately create higher-paying jobs for the growth and development Calloway & Trigg Counties. I will seek the help of Murray State University's research abilities and their vast resources to further our goals, along with an active and aggressive multi-county working relationship with Frankfort. To this end, it is absolutely essential that we develop strong ties and contacts with the Commerce and Transportation cabinets in Frankfort.
Think for just a minute about the unlimited possibilities for our community if our state legislators along with our Fiscal Courts, Mayors and City Councils, and the administration at Murray State University could and would sit down together periodically for the express purpose of putting our community's welfare first. What if all of these entities, which affect our lives every day, could work in unity and harmony for the true benefit of all? I believe the most effective, responsible, and responsive government is a government closest to the people it serves.
I truly believe that we are at a crossroads in Kentucky. Do we want to move forward and make our counties better, or do we want to continue to tread water? I will be a State Representative that will listen, work and deliver. As you can see from my experience, I have the proven leadership that is needed and leadership that will work for you.
This area has been a wonderful place for me to grow up and to also raise my family however, I can envision so much more. We have been far to easily pleased. I believe that our course should be adaptive so as to effect the most positive growth and the greatest benefit for ALL the people of Calloway and Trigg Counties.
Thanks – Veterans for your service and the love you have demonstrated for our country-that we live in this country with the freedom that you have allowed us to enjoy and it is a testament to the Christian teaching of the Golden Rule.
I appreciate your time and sincerely ask for your vote on November 6th, and earnestly seek your help and support in my campaign for State Representative to make Calloway & Trigg County, Kentucky, a truly great place to live, work, play, and retire.
