InfoThe Honorable Andy Scott, P.C. M.P., was first elected to the House of Commons in 1993 in the former riding of Fredericton-York-Sunbury. He was re-elected in 1997, 2000, 2004 and 2006 in the re-named riding of Fredericton. Mr. Scott has been appointed to several prominent posts over his thirteen years as a Member of Parliament holding key positions as a member of Cabinet and Government. He currently serves as the Official Opposition Critic for Infrastructure and Communities.

During the last session of Parliament, he served as Minister for Indian Affairs and Northern Affairs Canada and Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non Status Indians while retaining the position of Regional Minister for New Brunswick.

Mr. Scott previously served as Minister for Infrastructure Canada, Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation, Canada Lands Company and three other Crown corporations along with being Solicitor General.

In addition to his ministerial duties, Andy was a member of some important Cabinet committees: Government Operations (Priorities and Planning), Aboriginal Affairs, Domestic Affairs, which reviews social, economic and environmental policy issues and Canada/U.S. relations.

From 2001 to 2004, Mr. Scott served as Chair of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights. He also chaired the National Task Force on Disability Issues.

Before embarking on his political career, Mr. Scott was Senior Policy Advisor to New Brunswick Premier Frank McKenna, Assistant Deputy Minister in the Department of Intergovernmental Affairs, and Director of Official Languages.

Andy was born and grew up in Barkers Point, the son of Gyda and the late Keith Scott. He was educated at the University of New Brunswick (Fredericton), receiving a Bachelors degree in Sociology. Andy is married to Denise (Cameron). They have a new son, Noah, born in February, 2006. Mr. Scott also has two teenage sons, Nathan and Nicholas.
