| Info | James Moore was born in New Westminster, and raised in Coquitlam. After graduating from Centennial Sr. Secondary, he continued his studies in economics and business administration at Douglas College.
1996 marked James’ first year in broadcasting, working at CKST AM1040 in Vancouver. In 1997, he moved to Ottawa to work as the Communications Advisor for the Official Opposition and specialized in fiscal and economic policy. He worked to develop and implement a post-balanced budget communications strategy for the Official Opposition led by Preston Manning.
In 1998, James briefly returned to broadcasting in Vancouver before moving to Prince George to earn a degree in political science at the University of Northern BC. While in Prince George he continued in broadcasting by guest hosting at 550 CKPG and launching his own talk show entitled “’Behind the Headlines’ with James Moore.”
On November 27th/2000, James was elected to represent the constituency Port Moody-Coquitlam-Port Coquitlam as its representative in the Parliament of Canada. Elected at the age of 24, James is the youngest elected Member of Parliament in British Columbia's history.
In the 37th Parliament James served as Deputy Foreign Affairs Critic and Deputy National Revenue Critic. He was later promoted to serve as the Senior Transport Critic for Canada's Official Opposition and Vice-Chair of the Commons Transport Committee, the youngest Vice-Chair of a Parliamentary Committee in Canadian history.
In his first term in office, through Private Members' bills, James proposed legislation that would offer tax relief to victims of the leaky condo tragedy, toughen laws against date-rape drugs, force the Prime Minister to appoint elected Senators, impose consecutive rather than concurrent sentencing for violent criminals, ban gun ownership for violent criminals, toughen penalties for the illegal trafficking of prohibited weapons and ammunition, and toughen penalties for the trafficking of child pornography online. James also proposed and successfully passed through the House of Commons a motion calling for the investment of gas taxes into roads.
Also, James was very active in Question Period. In fact, in his first term he asked more questions in Question Period than any other MP who was not a current or former party leader at the time.
Also in his first term in office James was named "the best up-and-coming MP" four years in a row by fellow Members of Parliament and Parliament Hill staffers.
James was re-elected in the 2004 general election for the electoral district of Port Moody-Westwood-Port Coquitlam. In Stephen Harper's Shadow Cabinet James served as the Official Opposition Transportation Critic, as well as Amateur Sport Critic.
On January 23rd, 2006, James was re-elected to his third term in Parliament as the Member of Parliament for Port Moody-Westwood-Port Coquitlam. Shortly after the election, Prime Minister Stephen Harper appointed Moore to the post of Parliamentary Secretary for two different Cabinet Ministers. He is currently the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Public Works and Government Services, and also the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for the Pacific Gateway and the Vancouver-Whistler Olympics.
