Info | WINTER, Elisha I., a Representative from New York; born in New York City, July 15, 1781; moved about 1806 to that portion of the township of Peru, Clinton County, which was later included in the township of Ausable, and engaged in mining ore; was elected as a Federalist to the Thirteenth Congress (March 4, 1813-March 3, 1815); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1814 to the Fourteenth Congress; moved to a farm near Lexington, Ky., and engaged as a planter; was also instrumental in building the first railroad in that locality, and subsequently became president of the Lexington & Ohio Railroad; died in Lexington, Fayette County, Ky., June 30, 1849; interment in Lexington Cemetery.
