Info | PITCHER, Nathaniel, a Representative from New York; born in Litchfield, Conn., November 30, 1777; received a limited schooling; moved to Sandy Hill, N.Y.; supervisor 1804-1810; member of the New York state assembly in 1806 and 1815-1817; assessor of Kingsbury in 1812; surrogate of Washington County in 1812 and 1813; town clerk of Kingsbury in 1813 and 1814 and justice of the peace; studied law; was admitted to the bar and practiced; delegate to the New York state constitutional convention in 1821; lieutenant governor of New York in 1826 and acting governor upon the death of Governor Clinton 1828-1829; elected as a Republican to the Sixteenth and Seventeenth Congresses (March 4, 1819-March 3, 1823); reelected as a Jacksonian to the Twenty-second Congress (March 4, 1831-March 3, 1833); died in Sandy Hill (now Hudson Falls), Washington County, N.Y., May 25, 1836; interment in Baker Cemetery, Hudson Falls, N.Y.
