Info | Bob Turner is the Republican challenger to Congressman Anthony Weiner. He is not a career politician. He is a businessman, a U.S. Army veteran, and a practicing Roman Catholic.
Bob Turner has lived his entire life in the neighborhoods of the 9th District. He was raised in Woodhaven as the eldest of three sons, and raised his own family in Richmond Hill. He now resides in Rockaway Point. Three of his five children—and six of his 11 grandchildren—also live in the Ninth District.
Bob spent 40 years of his career in the highly competitive television industry. His first job was as a clerk for ABC-TV, launching a rewarding career in broadcasting, advertising, TV program production and distribution. As President, CEO or Chairman, Bob has started up and managed companies large and small. While his family life was centered on the Ninth District, Bob’s career took him around the globe as he conducted business and formed programming partnerships in places from Tbilisi to Delhi, Manila to Moscow.
In 2003, Bob stepped out of full time business management. Currently, he manages his own business interests, which include being an owner/partners in a hotel business in Orlando Florida. He is currently on the Board of Directors of Readspeak Inc. and Liberty Imaging Inc., and serves as a trustee of pro-bono organizations such as the Achilles Track Club and Family Focus Adoption Services.
“Having watched my father immensely enjoy the past several years of semi-retirement, I can assure you that he is running for Congress out of true conviction and for all the right reasons,” says Bob Turner’s second eldest son, Matthew, who followed in his footsteps in the media industry. “We believe that my father, a man of impeccable character with a keen intellect, will bring to government a much-needed business sensibility.”
