Info | Mayor Ed Johnson is a member of the Governing Body of Asbury Park, New Jersey. Appointed to fill a vacancy on the Asbury Park City Council in January 2005, he was elected to a four-year term in May 2005 and reelected to his second term in May 2009. As Mayor, Mr. Johnson represents the City of Asbury Park, presides at City Council Meetings, signs official documents and performs marriages and civil commitment ceremonies. He also serves on several key committees and subcommittees: Springwood Avenue Advisory Committee; Transportation Center Subcommittee; Neighborhood Preservation Program; Urban Enterprise Zone; Tax Subcommittee, Asbury Works & the Parking Advisory Subcommittee. Mr. Johnson also serves on numerous community advisory boards and facilitates regional and national conferences and professional seminars.
Prior to joining the City Council, Mr. Johnson served 4 consecutive terms as Chairman of the Asbury Park Urban Enterprise Zone. He is credited with the transformation of the APUEZ into a productive organization ready to meet its program obligations and local commitment to strengthen and grow the Asbury Park business community.
Mr. Johnson is a proud graduate of New Jersey Public Schools. He went on to attend Eastern New Mexico University where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Liberal Arts & Sciences and a Master of Arts Degree in Social & Political Sciences. As an undergraduate, Mr. Johnson was elected to 2 consecutive terms as Student Body President and as State Treasurer for the Associated Students of New Mexico. During his second term, The Governor of New Mexico appointed him to the New Mexico State Board of Educational Finance. As a graduate student, Mr. Johnson was awarded a graduate assistantship in Political Science to pursue his graduate degree and was named Outstanding Graduate Student of the year. Ed Johnson is a proud member of the Zeta Sigma Chapter of The Sigma Chi Fraternity.
Mr. Johnson has established a successful career as an educator. He has worked in the fields of Experiential Education, International Exchange, Scholarship and Academic Programs, & Higher Education. Mr. Johnson believes in open access in education and building Cross Cultural Communication and Diversity Awareness through Leadership Development.
Mr. Johnson currently serves as the Director of the Brookdale Community College Long Branch Higher Education Center in Long Branch, New Jersey. He is committed to promoting quality, affordable education and workforce development opportunities to the residents of Monmouth County.
