Info | O’LEARY, James Aloysius, (great grandfather of Vito James Fossella), a Representative from New York; born in New Brighton, Staten Island, N.Y., April 23, 1889; attended St. Peter’s Academy, Augustinian Academy, and Westerleigh Collegiate Institute, all Staten Island institutions; studied law while engaged in the real estate and insurance business; became associated with the North Shore Ice Co. in 1917 and served as general manager and vice president 1920-1934; also an official in numerous other Staten Island enterprises; unsuccessful candidate for the nomination of State senator in 1930; elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-fourth and to the four succeeding Congresses and served from January 3, 1935, until his death at West Brighton, Staten Island, N.Y., March 16, 1944; chairman, Committee on Expenditures in the Executive Departments (Seventy-sixth, Seventy-seventh, and Seventy-eighth Congresses); interment in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
