Info | David Tolleson has a record of active involvement in Roswell and beyond. Prior to his election to the City Council in 1999, David was probably best known for his work as President of the Big Creek Alliance, a grassroots organization of several hundred Roswell residents who lobbied successfully for the acquisition of 160 acres of greenspace, most notably the land which is now Big Creek Park. Additionally, David worked to improve the city as a member of Roswell's Transportation Advisory Committee, the River Banks Campus Overlay Committee, and as president of his homeowner's association. A graduate of Leadership North Fulton, David also served on Fulton County Commissioner Lynne Riley's Community Advisory Board.
The father of two school age children, David knows the importance of strong community schools. He has served on a Local School Advisory Council, as well as president of the Northwood Foundation, which he still serves as a board member. David currently serves on the Fulton County School Superintendent's Community Council, as well as in an advisory capacity on the Centennial High School Cluster Council.
David has been involved in local church service, having been a Sunday School teacher at both Roswell United Methodist and Mt. Pisgah United Methodist. He has served as a Stephen Minister, and was the first board chair of A Beacon of Hope Women's Center.
Professionally, David is recognized as a leader in the disability rights movement. As Executive Director of the National Down Syndrome Congress (NDSC), David has been interviewed on Fox News' "The Morning Show with Mike and Juliet", has written for The Guardian (U.K.), and has been quoted by a variety of media outlets including The New York Times, USA Today, and National Public Radio. While David's job has taken him to the White House and the halls of Congress, he is equally proud of his work with Roswell's Inclusion and ADA Task Forces, which are dedicated to making Roswell more accessible to seniors and individuals with disabilities. Prior to joining the NDSC, David was Chief Operating Officer and co-owner of Southern Druggists, Inc.
A native of Fulton County, David and his wife, Kim, have lived in Roswell since their marriage 21 years ago. They have two teenaged children, Katie and John.
