Info | Peter Shumlin is a lifelong Vermonter, born in Brattleboro and raised in Putney. He runs a successful student travel business that helps young students to travel all around the world to learn languages, explore different cultures and involve themselves with community service. Shumlin served as a member of the Putney Board of Selectmen for four years, two of those as Chairman before being appointed by Gov. Madeline Kunin (D-VT) to serve in the House of Representatives representing Putney and Dummerston. Shumlin was elected in his own right and then was elected to the State Senate in 1992. He served for 11 years, six of them as the President Pro Tempore of the Senate, and leading the Democrats most successful fundraising and recruitment efforts. In 2002, he was the Democratic nominee for Lieutenant Governor. He also is the founder of a legislative national association responsible for working with state legislators to lower the cost of prescription drugs. He lives in Putney and is married to Deborah Shumlin and has two daughters (Olivia and Becca).
