InfoJim King was elected to serve as Councilman for District 10 in Metro Louisville on November 2, 2004. The Oath of Office was administered to Jim by Judge Dolly Berry on January 3, 2005. In January 2006, he was chosen Majority Leader of the Metro Council and was re-elected to that position in January 2007.

On January 10th, 2008 Jim was elected as the sixth President of the Louisville Metro Council. He is currently the Chairman of the Council's Budget Committee. He is also Vice Chairman of the GOvernment Accountability and Oversight Committee and a member of the Labor and Economic Development Committee.

Jim’s District comprises much of the East Side of Louisville’s corporate limits stretching from Bardstown Road near Bashford Manor to the St. Joseph’s area at Eastern Parkway and Crittenden Drive. He proudly serves the people of Petersburg, West Buechel, Watterson City, the Upper Highlands, Audubon Ridge, Camp Taylor, Fincastle, Nightingale, Audubon Park, North Audubon, Schnitzelburg, Parkway Village, St. Joseph’s, Germantown, Paristown, Prestonia, Belmar and the entire Metro Area.

Jim was born in the St. Joseph’s neighborhood on Ervay Avenue. He was the 4th child and 1st boy in a family of six girls and two boys. Jim attended St. Raphael elementary school and St. Xavier High School, having graduated from the latter in 1969. In 1973, Jim graduated from the University of Louisville with a Bachelors Degree in Accounting and he joined Ernst & Ernst (now Young) shortly thereafter. Jim’s academic record at the University of Louisville earned him numerous awards and honors.

Jim received his license to practice as a Certified Public Accountant from the State of Kentucky in 1976 and in 1981 he formed a CPA firm, King & Company, PSC. That firm has operated successfully throughout Kentucky since that date and is currently located at 3400 Dutchmans Lane at the intersection of Taylorsville Road. Jim currently serves as the President and CEO of that firm and has held CPA licenses to practice in Indiana and Florida since the 1980’s.

In 1987, Jim acquired a bank in Nelson County, Kentucky and became its President and CEO as well. At the time of its acquisition, the bank had $6,000,000 in assets and only one location. Today, King Southern Bank has $160,000,000 in assets and 7 locations, 5 of which are in Jefferson County. Jim also serves as President and CEO of King Bancorp, Inc., the parent bank holding company of Jim’s Bank and he has real estate holdings throughout Jefferson and Shelby Counties in Kentucky and in Florida.

Jim and his wife, Debbie, have two sons and two daughters, and two granddaughters and six grandsons. Fortunately, all of their children and grandchildren reside in Jefferson County and in fact, two of their children and six of their grandchildren reside in the District! Jim has been active in Church and civic activities his entire life. He currently serves on the Board of the Kentucky Derby Festival, the Louisville Orchestra and the Kentucky Bankers Association (Past Chairman). He is a member of St. Raphael Catholic Church.
