InfoGovernor of the Bank of Finland (Suomen Pankki) since July 12 2018 and member of the Governing Council of the European Central Bank.

Rehn was elected to Helsinki City Council in 1988 at the age of 26, and became Centre Party Vice President from 1988 to 1994. He won election to the Finnish Parliament at the age of 29 in 1991, almost immediately after obtaining a masters from the University of Helsinki. Upon losing re-election, he pursued a doctor of philosophy degree from Oxford in 1996, opting out of politics for a time to serve in various capacities at the European Commission, some duties overlapping:

European Commissioner for Enlargement from 2004 to 2010; European Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs from 2009 to 2014; and Vice-President of the European Commission between 2011–2014.

Rehn re-emerged as Member of Parliament from Helsinki in April 2015 on the Centre Party ticket, then joined Prime Minister Juha Sipilä’s Government in 2015–2016 as Minister of Economic Affairs.

Rehn was selected to the Board of the Bank of Finland on October 14, 2016 and wound up tapped by the Parliamentary Supervisory Council, which oversees the Bank of Finland, to replace Erkki Liikanen as Governor and Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Finland. Rehn was officially appointed by Finnish President Sauli Niinisto on May 18, 2018.
