Info | Frank G. Pelzman, Mayor of Woodbridge Township, carries with him years of experience in both the public and private sectors of Woodbridge. A resident of Woodbridge Township since 1941, Pelzman has had a prolific career in business and government.
Mayor Pelzman was educated in the Woodbridge Township School District, and graduated from Woodbridge High School in 1952. A U.S. Army veteran, Pelzman served his country in Okinawa and Japan from 1955 to 1957.
He was employed by Security Steel Corporation (now General Dynamics) for 13 years, and went on to serve as Manager and Vice President of Stacor Corporation for 27 years, before retiring. Pelzman also served as Financial Aid Officer for Middlesex County Vocational Schools until retiring in 1999.
As Third Ward Councilman for 14 years, Pelzman had the opportunity to serve and help improve Woodbridge Township, through beautification programs, road and sewer improvements, increased park and recreational facilities, the Mayor's Concert Series, and the development of the Sewaren Park and Peninsula. He has always been ready to fight for the people, such as the battle to keep the Avenel Train Station open, and the ongoing struggle against the sex offender facility in Avenel, the Trash Train, and Conrail.
Mayor Pelzman has also always been active in the community. As a member of St. Andrew's Parish, he has been involved in many religious organizations, and served on the parish's financial committee. He has been committee chairman of Cub Scout Pack 73, and an officer and manager of Fords Clara Barton Boys Baseball League.
Pelzman still resides in Avenel, with Dorothy, his wife of 45 years. His three children, Frank, Anne, and Patricia, and his seven grandchildren all call Woodbridge Township home.
In his 61 years in Woodbridge Township, Pelzman has seen it grow from a small rural area to the sixth largest community in New Jersey. And he has grown with it, from businessman, to councilman, to mayor.
Mayor Pelzman has always been grateful to have spent his developmental years and adult life in Woodbridge; for the education he has received, and the friendships he has made. Now, he can devote his full time to continuing to make Woodbridge Township a better place to live.
