In 1952, Daly managed Douglas MacArthur’s campaign in the Illinois Republican presidential preference primary, although MacArthur was not officially a candidate. (NYT 1/22/1952) Daly also entered “General MacArthur,” who worked in a Chicago packing house, in the Wisconsin primary (NYT 3/1/1952), hoping that voters would vote for him as a stand-in for Douglas MacArthur.
