| Info | A seventh-generation Georgian and lifelong resident of DeKalb County, Loren was raised in Stone Mountain and has lived in Brookhaven since 2006. He grew up first attending DeKalb County public schools, and later graduated as salutatorian from Greater Atlanta Christian in Norcross in 1997. Loren then attended the University of Georgia where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. in the dual majors of Political Science and Religion, and received his J.D. from the University of Georgia School of Law in 2004.
After finishing law school, Loren moved to Brookhaven and worked as an associate for eight years in a small private firm in Atlanta specializing in the representation of individual plaintiffs. He now practices law independently, and earlier this year began his own civil mediation practice.
In 2012, Loren authored his first book, Bullspotting: Finding Facts in the Age of Misinformation, published by Prometheus Books. The book is an introductory guide to the principles of skepticism and critical thinking, educating the reader on the methods of identifying and avoiding conspiracy theories, pseudoscience, denialist beliefs, and the like. He has written articles and given public presentations on skeptical topics, such as pseudolaw. Loren also founded the Science! Superpac, in the hopes of promoting scientific literacy in America’s laws and among America’s lawmakers.
Although this is Loren’s first appearance on an election ballot, he previously ran as a write-in candidate for Georgia’s Fourth Congressional District, in both 2006 and 2008. Despite the lack of ballot access, Loren nonetheless participated in nearly every public candidate forum and debate. It was during these elections that Loren first identified himself as a Bull Moose candidate, a practice he has carried over to this election so as to reflect his fiscally conservative yet socially libertarian politics that don’t neatly fit into today’s Republican or Democratic parties.
Loren is the son of Leon and Lourene Collins of Stone Mountain. His brother Lyle and his family also live in Stone Mountain, where Lyle runs a landscape design firm. His sister Lara, a veterinarian, and her family live in Buford.
