Served as Mingo County Prosecuting Attorney prior to his appointment to the bench.
A Mingo County native, Justice “Spike” Maynard has served the public as a school teacher, prosecutor and small business owner. In 1982 Gov. John D. Rockefeller, IV, appointed Maynard as Judge of the Thirtieth Judicial Circuit, a post to which he was elected and re-elected. Justice Maynard was elected to the Supreme Court in 1996 and currently serves as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, having also served as Chief in 2000 and 2004.
