Congressman Nick Lampson and his family have a rich history in Texas's 22nd Congressional District. Both his maternal and paternal grandparents came to Texas from Italy nearly one hundred years ago. They settled in Stafford, Fort Bend County, where they raised their children on adjacent farms and were founding members of a church that still stands today. Congressman Lampson's parents grew up, met and married in Fort Bend County. He and his siblings spent many hours on their grandparents' farms. There they picked cotton and okra, and learned the importance of working together as a team, as a family and as a community larger than themselves. Congressman Lampson knows that family and community are the real backbone of America. He has been married to his wife, Susan for 35 years. They have two grown daughters, and three grandchildren.
Nicholas Valentino Lampson is one of six children born to a welder and a homemaker. At age twelve, Congressman Lampson’s father passed away, and young Nick began sweeping floors to augment the family income...
Although Congressman Lampson’s mother, Nancy Jebbia Lampson, was only able to attend school through the fifth grade, she was a firm believer in a good education. She made certain all six of her children graduated from college with at least one degree, and she received her GED at the ripe young age of eighty. Mrs. Lampson’s tenacity and encouragement instilled a great legacy of education in the entire Lampson family. Congressman Lampson himself is a former high school science teacher. His wife, Susan, is a special education teacher and his daughters are both board-certified teachers.
Education will always be a top concern for Congressman Lampson because it means so much to his family. He fights hard for public education and against efforts to get rid of essential programs like Head Start that assist early childhood education. He also supports making college tuition fully tax deductible so more kids can reach college, and bringing down the cost of loans.
For nearly two decades, Lampson served as a popular voter registrar and tax assessor-collector. He modernized the office and improved collection rates.
Congressman Lampson is also thrilled to once again represent the Johnson Space Center. Congressman Lampson served as the ranking member on the Space and Aeronautics Subcommittee and he fights hard for more resources so NASA may fulfill our country's leadership role in space exploration and scientific technology development.
Congressman Lampson is well known for his efforts on issues of child safety. He founded the Congressional Caucus on Missing and Exploited Children, which helped create the national Amber Alert system. This is now the largest bi-partisan caucus in Congress with near equal numbers of Republicans and Democrats. Congressman Lampson has also been recognized by John Walsh, host of America’s Most Wanted and the Center for Missing and Exploited Children for his work to protect kids.
Congressman Lampson was a leader in launching Project Safe Place in Harris and Galveston Counties, a project bringing businesses together to aid children in trouble and in need a safe place to go.
