InfoJohn Culberson is a native Houstonian who was born and raised in District Seven. He married Belinda Burney of Orange, Texas in December, 1989. Their first child, Caroline Virginia, was born in October, 1996. They live in west Harris County and are active members of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church.

He was sworn in as District 7's third Congressman on January 3, 2001, after serving 14 years in the Texas House of Representatives. John was elected to the Texas House in 1986 at the age of 29 from a seven-candidate field in a Republican primary and run-off. In the last session, the 76th Legislature, he served on the House Environmental Regulation and Corrections Committees, and has previously served on the House Public Education and Natural Resources Committees. John was selected by his Republican colleagues as the House Republican Whip and was responsible for solidifying support among his colleagues for Governor George W. Bush's legislative program and for Republican legislative initiatives in the House.

He earned a BA in history from Southern Methodist University and a JD from South Texas College of Law. After college, John learned how to run a business by working with his father in his advertising agency.

John was elected to Congress on November 7, 2000. He serves on the House Committee on Appropriations, the House Steering Committee, and is a member of the House Republican Whip Team and of the National Republican Congressional Committee.
