| Info | An award-winning journalist and innovative community leader, Marianne Meed Ward believes in the power of community and the values that bolster it. Marianne will bring her strong, articulate voice to Queen’s Park on the issues that matter to families: education, healthcare, the environment and unchecked urban sprawl.
Raised in Ottawa, Marianne earned a Bachelor of Journalism from Carleton University in 1989. She served 10 years at a bi-monthly magazine, the last three as editor, where she managed four full-time staff, 30 freelancers and a $450,000 budget. In 1995, she launched Meed Ward Communications Group, providing writing, broadcasting and consulting to a wide variety of clients, including the Toronto Sun, Vision TV, TVOntario, CBC radio and television, Ryerson University, CH-TV and Chatelaine magazine. For the past 10 years, Marianne has been a successful columnist with the Toronto Sun. In her 17-year career she has won a number of prestigious awards relating to her specialty, writing and commenting on faith and ethics.
In 2001, realizing that many of her neighbours, like her, had few local supports, she started a community group that now numbers 80 families. She is also a member of other community organizations such as Sustainable Burlington, Burlington’s Transit Advisory Committee, the Burlington Citizen’s Group, Royal Botanical Gardens, Bruce Trail Association and the Burlington Citizens' Group. She has also served as a volunteer at her children’s school and on various committees in her local church.
Marianne, 41, lives in Burlington with husband Peter and children Miranda, 9 and twins Nicholas and Alexandra, 6.
