InfoBruno Arthur Barreiro was first elected Miami-Dade County Commissioner representing District 5 in June 1998. He was reelected to the District 5 seat on September 5, 2000. His Commission district includes portions of the Cities of Miami and Miami Beach, as well as the communities of Little Havana, Downtown, and South Beach.

Elected to the Florida House of Representatives in 1992, Commissioner Barreiro represented District 107 until his election to the County Commission. While serving in the House, he Chaired the Tourism Committee and served on the General Government Appropriations and Long Term Care Committees. He now serves as Chair of the Miami-Dade County Transportation, Infrastructure, and Environment Committee, and Vice-Chair of the Administrative Board for Tri-Rail .

Commissioner Barreiro is an active participant in the community. His memberships include: the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials; the Sierra Club; the National Audubon Society; the Dade Heritage Trust; UNIDAD; CAMACOL; the Miami Beach, Key Biscayne, Coral Gables and Greater Miami Chambers of Commerce; the Miami Project to Cure Paralysis; the American Heart Association; the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum; the Florida Association of Licensed Investigators; the National Rifle Association of America; the Downtown Bay Forum; and the Elephant Forum.

Commissioner Barreiro has received numerous awards for his service and dedication to the community. He received the 1996 Florida Police Benevolent Association Award; the 1995 Florida Sheriffs Legislative Award; the 1994 and 1995 Hispanic Trooper Association Award; the Metro-Dade Police Appreciation Award for supporting and promoting the Officer Evelyn Gort and All Fallen Officers Career Criminal Act of 1995; the 1993 and 1996 Dade County Public Schools of Dade & UTD Efforts Award; the 1993 University of Florida Appreciation Award; the 1996 Florida Medical Association Appreciation Award; the 1996 American Heart Association Appreciation Award; the 1996 Medical Group 92 Appreciation Award; the 1994 Champion for Tourist Development Award; the 1995 Salvation Army Outstanding Volunteer Service Award; the 1996 CCSA Walk for Families in Need Participation Award; the 1997 City of Miami Beach Distinguished Citizens Award; the 1993 We Will Rebuild Honor Award; the 1997 Prime Time Seniors Temple of Emanu-El Community Appreciation Award; and the Dade County League of Cities 1993 Good Government and 1996 Outstanding Service Awards. He has also been recognized by the Dade Partners for Safe Neighborhoods (1995); the Dade County Police Benevolent Association (1995 and 1997); the FLA Transformers Honor Roll (1996); the Greater Homestead Florida City Chamber of Commerce; and the Florida Chamber of Commerce Honor Roll (1994 and 1995).

Commissioner Barreiro is the son of Cuban immigrant parents, and was born in Clearwater, Florida on December 14, 1965. He attended the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. Professionally, Commissioner Barreiro is the President of BABJ Investment Corporation in Miami, Florida.

Commissioner Barreiro and his wife Zoraida, reside on Miami Beach.
