DICKINSON, William Louis, a Representative from Alabama; born in Opelika, Lee County, Ala., June 5, 1925; attended the public schools of Opelika, Ala.; served in United States Navy, 1943-1946; major, United States Air Force Reserves; University of Alabama Law School, J.D., 1950; was admitted to the bar in 1950 and began practice in Opelika, Ala.; Opelika city judge, 1952-1954; judge of Lee County Court of Common Pleas and of Juvenile Court, 1954-1958; circuit judge, Fifth Judicial Circuit of Alabama, 1958-1962; assistant vice president of the Southern Railway System, 1962-1964; member of Opelika Board of Education, 1954-1962, and served as president in 1961; member and one of cofounders of the board of directors of Lee County Rehabilitation Center, 1960-1962; member of Governor’s Industrial Development Committee of One Hundred, 1963; delegate, State Republican conventions, 1964, 1966, 1968, and 1970; delegate, Republican National Convention, 1968; elected as a Republican to the Eighty-ninth and to the thirteen succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1965-January 3, 1993); was not a candidate for renomination in 1992 to the One Hundred Third Congress; died on March 31, 2008, in Montgomery, Ala.
