Info | About Representative Galen Hollenbaugh I am a native Montanan, raised in Missoula, with the Rattlesnake Wilderness area as my back yard. My father was a forestry professor who also worked for the BLM. His passion instilled in me a deep love and respect for Montana and our great out- doors. Hiking, fishing, hunting and camping remain important in my life.
In 1986, I volunteered on my first campaign–for former state representative and past party chair, Bob Ream. This experience helped me realize that most people cared about Big Sky Country, and that politics would help determine how Montana develops. I also realized that Democratic politics were making a real difference in the lives of Montanans. Before long, I began volunteering for more campaigns and eventually became a member of many campaign staffs.
Since 1986, I have worked for the Greeley/Fritz and the Morrison/Kimberly gubernatorial teams, and I was a field manager for the 1990 Baucus campaign. In 1992, I moved to Helena to work as a field coordinator for Congressman Pat Williams in his epic showdown with Ron Marlenee.
In 1996, I went to work for the Montana Department of Justice on the staff of Attorney General Joe Mazurek.I helped manage Joe’s 1996 re-election effort and, in 2000, managed Attorney General Mike McGrath’s campaign.
Since 2001, I have served as Mike’s Deputy Chief of Staff. In between the campaigns, I received a political science degree from the University of Montana, where I was involved in student politics as a member of the student council and as student body president.
