InfoScott Hockenbery graduated from West Jefferson High School, class of 1995. This is where he first became interested in politics. After talking to his instructor in government class about an issue not to the liking of him or his classmates, Scott was told if you don't like it, you could always try to do something about it. This is exactly what he did.

Scott organized a group called PAST, Protecting A Small Town, dedicated to preserving the unique characteristics and small town charm that make West Jefferson such a great place to live. He wanted to give his family, friends, and neighbors a chance to be heard. While many things have changed in the past twelve years, Scott's desire to be a voice for residents has not. This is what makes him an excellent Council person today.

His higher education started with the University of Dayton in 1995. While at Dayton, he took a wide range of courses while majoring in Education, with a minor in Political Science. During his second year of college, his Father was diagnosed with cancer, and he returned home.

In 1997 he decided to go to the Ohio Fire Academy in Reynoldsburg. He obtained his certifications as a Firefighter and as an Emergency Medical Technician. He has worked for the Jefferson Township Fire Department for the past 10 years.

A few years later, Scott applied for and received a scholarship through the Army to go to The Ohio State University. His experiences and training while at Ohio State are a great benefit to the Village, and important to have in our Mayor. Some of his courses included:
* Introduction to Politics
* Politics and Public Policy
* Policy Analysis
* Political Participation and Voting Behavior
* US in World Politics
* Political Decision Making and Public Policy
* Security Policy
* Women and Politics
* Theories of International Relations
* Introduction to Leadership I , II, and III
* Individual Leadership I , II, and III
* Military Operations at Small Unit Level
* Training Management and Ethics
* Leadership and Problem Solving
* Operations and Administration
* Leadership and Teamwork
* Leadership and Ethics

In his senior year at OSU, Scott was awarded an internship through The John Glenn School of Public Affairs. This experience offered him an opportunity to study and work in the nations capitol. While in Washington, D.C., Scott worked for FEMA, The Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The training, sense of teamwork, and leadership skills Scott learned in the military are also valuable assets to the Village and are important characteristics to have in a Mayor. Today, Scott is in the Ohio Army National Guard and a member of the 684th Area Support Medical Company (ASMC) located at DSCC in Columbus.

Scott has served on Village Council since 2004. While on Council, he has learned a great deal about Village matters. He is the most active member of Council today. Currently he is a member of the Finance, Police, and Development Committees. In the past, he has served on the Parks and Recreation, Special Events, and Public Service Committees. Recently, he created the new Comprehensive plan for the Village. As Council Vice President, he is also one of the most outspoken members of Council.

Scott would like to be Mayor because he wants to see our Village continue to move into the future, not take several steps backwards by electing someone who has already had their chance, and has made their opinions known. He also wants to become Mayor to see that legislation gets carried out and enforced.

The system of government established by our charter is called a Strong Mayor / Council Plan. A strong Mayor is exactly what we need to take West Jefferson into the 21st Century. His past experiences, education, and training uniquely qualify him for the position.
